Fall Prevention Day at Ursuline Center

Posted 9/29/2019

With the first day of autumn comes a burst of mums, pumpkins, colorful leaves, and the annual Fall Prevention Day at the Ursuline Center.

On Monday, September 23, Ursuline Center therapists and 15 students from St. Ursula Academy’s Women in Leadership Class joined residents for an afternoon of fun.

While walking along the beautiful paths surrounding the Ursuline Center, residents and their helpers stopped at 10 different stations that offered education or exercises. The Fall Prevention Day ended with ice cream sundaes in the Dining Room.

Keeping our residents safe and healthy is a top priority of the Ursuline Center staff. While falls are a leading cause of injury and death among people age 65 and older, we are doing all we can to reduce falls and help residents stay safe and healthy. This includes ensuring living spaces are safe with clear paths for travel, non-skid tape is in good repair, rooms have proper lighting, and call lights are within reach. Therapists check residents’ canes, walkers and wheelchairs to ensure the equipment is spot-on fitting.

The State of Ohio and state business partners have initiated a statewide collaborative fall prevention initiative called STEADU U Ohio to ensure that every county, every community and every Ohioan knows how they can prevent falls, one step at a time.
