Feast of the Sacred Heart

Posted 5/30/2019

Friday, June 28 is the Feast of the Sacred Heart.

This great feast is totally about LOVE and PREPARATION. You don’t have to be a scripture scholar to fully understand it. In the 17th Century, Jesus appeared to St. Margaret Mary in what are called, “The Three Great Revelations.” Through these revelations, He entrusted the spreading of this devotion to her.

In the first apparition, she saw Jesus pulling aside His garment showing her His heart. Then she heard Him say, ‘My heart is so passionately in love with my people that It can no longer contain within Itself the flames of its ardent charity. It must pour them out by your means, and manifest Itself to them to enrich them with Its precious treasures, which contain all the grace they need.’

Later, in the other apparitions, Our Lord speaks of the coldness and indifference He receives from His people and asks for love and reparation.

There are many prayers and ejaculations for this devotion. The most popular ones are:
“Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place my trust in You.”
“Jesus meek and humble of Heart, make my heart like unto Yours.”
“Sacred Heart of Jesus, may Your kingdom come.”

The Visitation Sisters, on Parkside Blvd., have a novena to the Sacred Heart every year. This year the dates are June 21 – June 28. Novena prayers and Mass are twice daily at 7 a.m. and 7:15 p.m. Generally the Bishop has the closing evening Mass.
