LCWR Prepares for Virtual August Assembly

Posted 7/29/2020

In the midst of COVID-19 and the systemic racial tensions that have invaded our country, the Leadership Conference of Women Religious forge ahead with the annual assembly August 12,13, and 14 Online.

To prepare for the assembly participants have been engaged during June and July with the opportunity to meet with one another on ZOOM for a prayer and reflection experience.

In June the reflection centered on “Transforming Our Individual and Collective Grief and Trauma for the Sake of the World.” Three questions were suggested for discussion and sharing: 1) How am I experiencing grief as a profoundly humanizing experience? In what ways does it open me to the depths of the Paschal Mystery? 2) How do I experience the invitation to forgive myself for at times failing to meet the needs of my loved ones? What may the grief of this be trying to teach me/us? 3) What do we find ourselves cherishing in new ways?

In July the reflection focused on “Embracing Vulnerability in Our Service of Leadership.” Two questions for discussion were 1) In this time of personal and collective vulnerability, what do you think the world most needs from me/us? 2) How might religious life be called to change in order to be responsive to the emerging needs of all of God’s creation?
Other items to review are the LCWR Call 2015-2022, the LCWR Emerging Orientations, the LCWR Annual Report 2019-2020, the Assembly Resolution 2019-2020 (Creating Communion at the Intersection of Racism, Migration and Climate Crisis).

Over 800 participants are registered at this time and the theme is “God’s Infinite Vision: Our Journey to the Borders and Beyond.” Each day there will be two two-hour blocks 1-3 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. Sessions will include a presentation from the LCWR president, a group of panelists, breakout rooms, opportunity to visit Exhibitors virtually, other presentations on various topics and concludes with the blessing and LCWR leadership and sending forth the participants.
Look for more in September to summarize important and significant calls to move the LCWR conference forward in this ever-changing global world.
